14.23

釋滿意，不知何許人也。風神峭拔，識量寬和，經論旁通，專於律學。武德末，所遇鄴都法礪律師，作疏解《曇無德律》，遂往摳衣，明其授受。如是講導三十許年。乃傳付觀音寺大亮律師。亮方授越州曇一。盛化之間，出龍象之資，無過意之門也矣。

Śramaṇa Manyi: it is not known where he was from. His demeanor was lofty and outstanding, and his capacity of discernment broad and harmonious; he was broadly versed in the sūtras and treatises and specialized in vinaya studies. At the end of the Wude era, he met Vinaya Master Fali of the capital of Ye, who had composed a commentary explaining the Dharmaguptaka-vinaya, and thereupon tucked up his robes to go study with him, mastering what was transmitted. He lectured and guided students in this way for some thirty years. He then transmitted the teachings to Vinaya Master Dali of Guanyin Temple. Li in turn transmitted them to Tanyi of Yuezhou. During this flourishing transformation, talents among dragons and elephants were produced, none surpassing the school of Yi.
