Regarding Shi Hehe, his clan and origin are unknown. As a monk he appeared mad yet was not disordered, foolish yet knowing, and none could fathom his origins. His words mostly hit the mark, and at the time he was called a sage. He resided in Anguo Temple, coming and going without restraint. Seeing that the construction of halls and pavilions in his monastery was not yet complete—and knowing that the Princess of Yue had married Zheng Wanjun of Xingyang, and though they lived in marital harmony, they had been childless for years—Hehe accordingly went to the princess's residence. Jun burned incense and swept the grounds to welcome him. The princess bowed and took refuge, and Jun prayed and said to him: "Since I have been favored to marry a princess, I desire to obtain a son as an heir; only you, Master, can bring this about." Hehe said: "That is easy! Just give me three thousand bolts of silk, and the princess will give birth to two sons." Jun treated this reverently as if hearing the Buddha's words, and gave the silk according to the request. Hehe handed it over to the donor in charge of repairing the monastery's halls and pavilions. He then said: "The princess is pregnant. I have ordered two heavenly beings to descend and be sons to the princess. What I worry about is whether the princess can carry two sons at once, for suckling twins brings shame. I shall make her give birth to them within the same year, one after the other." It turned out exactly as he said: at the beginning of the year and the end of the year, she gave birth to one each. The elder was named Qianyao, and the second was named Huiming; both were handsome gentlemen who later became widely learned and accomplished. The story spread and bubbled through the capital; judging by his spiritual attainment, he is not to be judged lightly!
