Śramaṇa Zunfa was a native of western India; in Sanskrit his name was Bhagavaddharma, rendered in Chinese as Zunfa (Revering the Dharma). Crossing far over the sand and gravel, he reached China with the intention to transmit and translate, and with a firm vow to transform and guide. During the Yonghui era [650–655] of Heavenly Emperor (Gaozong), he translated the one-fascicle Qianshou qianyan Guanshiyin pusa guangda yuanman wu'ai dabeixin tuoluoni jing (Sahasrabhuja-sahasranetra-avalokiteśvara-bodhisattva-mahāpūrṇa-apratihata-mahākāruṇika-dhāraṇī-sūtra). The scripture title merely states that it was translated by Bhagavaddharma of western India, without indicating the year. Deducing its course, it was suspected to have been during the Yonghui or Xianqing eras. Furthermore, according to the Preface to the Thousand-Armed Scripture, it says: "Zhitong translated this together with this Tripiṭaka Master." The end of Zunfa's life is unknown.
