23.22

系曰：《處胎經》中菩薩禪定攝意，入火界三昧，愚惑眾生謂為菩薩遭劫火燒，是也。比丘實未及此，無象此以惑人。如能用少芻𮓐能焚巨骸，則可信矣！故書曰：「民無胥譸張為幻。」吁哉！

The appraisal says: In the Chutai jing, when a bodhisattva concentrates his thoughts in dhyāna meditation and enters the fire-realm samādhi, foolish and deluded sentient beings claim that the bodhisattva was consumed by the kalpa fire; this refers to that. A monk who has not truly reached this level should not feign it to delude others. If one can use a little bundle of grass to burn a great corpse, that may indeed be believed! Thus the Classic of Documents says: 'Let not the people mutually deceive and fabricate illusions.' Alas!
