23.28

系曰：塵師捐捨，詎能愈其精進乎？脫落浮榮，豈能勝其義解乎？若然者，不可以一名名矣。厥猶瞻蔔華焉，色黃而美，則真金謝其色；香芬而遠，則牛頭愧其香。多名生乎一體者，其塵公歟！

The appraisal says: Could Master Chen's renunciations surpass his vigorous advancement? Could casting off fleeting glory surpass his exegetical understanding? If so, he cannot be designated by a single name. He is just like a campaka flower: its color is yellow and lovely, so that true gold yields to its hue; its fragrance is sweet and far-reaching, so that ox-head sandalwood feels ashamed before its scent. For multiple names to arise from a single person—is that not Master Chen?!
