23.7

系曰：先人有奪人之心，壽公先其慥矣。夫直往者必能逕來也——業累弗羇，樊籠弗罩，脫羇開罩，生死自由。既然自由，已躋果位矣！俗諦觀之，壽公出藍之青也矣。而能秉心矯跡，出其師之前，一日千里，其是之謂乎！

The evaluation: Those who take the lead have the initiative to overcome others; Master Shou anticipated his master Zao. Indeed, one who goes straight forward can surely come directly: unfettered by the burdens of karma, unenclosed by the cage; shedding fetters and opening the cage, one attains mastery over life and death. Since he attained mastery, he had already ascended to the stage of fruition! Viewed from conventional truth, Master Shou was indigo blue emerging from the plant, surpassing it. To maintain such purpose, alter mundane traces, and depart before his own master—advancing a thousand li in a single day—is that not what this exemplifies?
