Śramaṇa Falang was a native of Gusu. His temperament was gentle and moist, his discipline of mind firm and resolute. He recited the Avalokiteśvara Vidyā-dhāraṇī, and its spiritual efficacy was manifest repeatedly. When he went to sightsee in the capital, everyone came to know and respect him. In the second year of the Longshuo era, Princess Chengyang fell seriously ill; the imperial physicians provided treatment, leaving no method untried. The princess was the younger sister of the Great Emperor Gaozong by the same mother, and his fraternal love for her was exceptionally deep. She had married Du He, son of Du Ruhui. After He died, she remarried Xue Guan. As her illness dragged on critically, someone reported that Lang could hold secret dhāraṇīs and that those he treated mostly recovered. When Lang was summoned to arrive, he established an altar and engaged in recitation; within two nights she recovered, and the rewards bestowed were lavish. As for these coins, silks, and precious gems, Lang turned them all into face-to-face almsgiving. The princess memorialized the throne requesting to change the temple's placard to Guan'yin Temple (Avalokiteśvara Temple) for him to dwell in. This temple was originally the Linggan Temple of the Sui, founded in the third year of Kaihuang. When Emperor Wen moved the capital, he excavated many of the tombs and cemeteries within the city walls, relocated their burials to the suburbs, and established this temple. In the fourth year of the Wude era of the Tang, it was abolished, and at this time its placard was altered again. Lang passed away soon after in this temple.
