24.23

時有啟芳法師、圓果法師於藍田縣悟真寺一夏結契，念阿彌陀佛，共折一楊枝於觀音手中，誓曰：「若得生佛土者，願七日不萎。」至期鮮翠也。又夢在大池內東面有大寶帳，乃飛入其中，見僧云「但專念佛，並生此也。」又見觀音垂脚而坐。啟芳奉足頂戴，見一池蓮華，彌陀佛從西而來。芳問佛曰：「閻浮眾生依經念佛，得生此否？」佛言：「勿疑，定生我國也。」且見極樂世界平坦如鑑，娑婆世界純是山川。音樂寶帳，直西而去。有一僧名法藏，御一大車來迎。芳見自身坐百寶蓮華，成等正覺，釋迦牟尼佛與文殊讚《法華經》。復見三道寶階向西直往，第一道階上並是白衣，第二階有道俗相參，第三階唯有僧也，云皆是念佛人往生矣。芳、果二師躬云己見云。

At that time, Dharma Master Qifang and Dharma Master Yuanguo formed a pact during a single summer retreat at Wuzhen Temple in Lantian County to practice mindfulness of Amitābha Buddha. Together they snapped a willow branch and placed it in the hand of Avalokiteśvara, vowing: 'If we are to attain rebirth in the Buddha-land, may it not wither for seven days.' When the period expired, it was still fresh and green. Later, [Qifang] dreamed that within a great pool to the east there was a great jeweled canopy; he flew into it and saw a monk who said, 'Merely devote yourself exclusively to mindfulness of the Buddha, and all will be reborn here.' He also saw Avalokiteśvara seated with feet dangling down. Qifang reverently bowed his head to the feet, and saw a pool of lotuses, with Amitābha Buddha coming from the west. Fang asked the Buddha, 'If sentient beings in Jambudvīpa practice mindfulness of the Buddha according to the scriptures, will they attain rebirth here?' The Buddha said, 'Do not doubt; they will certainly be born in my land.' Moreover, he saw the Land of Ultimate Bliss flat as a mirror, while the sahā world was entirely mountains and rivers. Music and jeweled canopies headed straight for the west. A monk named Dharmākara drove a great carriage to welcome him. Fang saw his own body seated upon a lotus of a hundred jewels, attaining equal and perfect enlightenment, while Śākyamuni Buddha and Mañjuśrī praised the Lotus Sūtra. He further saw three flights of jeweled steps heading straight to the west: upon the first flight of steps were all white-robed laity, on the second flight were monastics and laypeople mixed together, and on the third flight were monastics alone; it was said that all were people who practiced mindfulness of the Buddha reborn there. Masters Fang and Guo personally spoke of what they had seen.
