The appraisal says: Can those who share the same name but differ in reality die in place of each other? Karma cannot be transferred, yet here it was transferred—is this not the same as common shamans painting likenesses of their own forms and saying they can substitute for calamities? An explanation states: 'King Yama is perhaps a bodhisattva; with identical names, he spares the good and arrests the non-good. Perhaps this one's frost of sins suddenly dried up and his lifespan was appropriately lengthened, so he was spared; while the other's vessel of evil was just filled to the brim and had reached its end, so he was taken. If one were taken merely because they had the same name to substitute in reality, it was done to exert transformative teaching! Beyond this, it is not something that ordinary reason can know.'
