Shi Daxing was a native of Qizhou. Later he entered Mount Tai, weaving grass for clothes and gathering wild plants for food. He practiced the Lotus Samādhi and induced Samantabhadra to manifest his physical body. Xing sighed to himself: "Life is impermanent and must inevitably come to ruin; where shall I take birth in the next world?" Thereupon he entered the canon and reached his hand in at random to draw out a scripture, obtaining holy teachings on the Western Direction. He then single-mindedly concentrated on Amitābha Buddha. Within three weeks, at midnight, he suddenly beheld ground of lapis lazuli, his mind's eye becoming thoroughly bright and clear, seeing the Buddhas of the ten directions like images in a clear mirror. Later, an imperial decree summoned Xing into the inner palace to lodge in the imperial halls. By imperial decree, he was granted the title Bodhisattva Ever-Vigorous and ennobled as Duke of the Nation. He then displayed a slight illness and passed away lying on his right side. When the coffin was opened after burial, his appearance looked as if he were still alive, and an extraordinary fragrance was richly diffused.
