或曰:「如天下言音令人樂聞者,與襄陽人為較——準彼漢音也——,音附語言,謂之漢音、漢語。則知語與音別。所言唄𠽋者是梵音,如此方歌謳之調歟!且梵音急疾而言,則表詮也;分曉舒徐引曳,則唄𠽋也。」

Someone asked: "For example, of the spoken sounds under heaven that make people delighted to hear, those compared to Xiangyang people correspond to the Han sounds—where tone attaches to language, it is called Han sound and Han speech. From this we know that speech and sound are distinct. You say that hymnody is Sanskrit sound; is it like the singing melodies of this region? Moreover, when Sanskrit sound is spoken swiftly, it expresses meaning; when it is clear, relaxed, leisurely, and prolonged, it is hymnody."
