Shi Yefang was the Dharma-grandson of Dhyāna Master Jietuo. He was seven chi and five cun tall, with a noble and archaic countenance, arms hanging past his knees, eyebrows several inches long, and double pupils in his eyes, so that people looked upon him with awe. He untiringly bowed in worship and chanted, continuing Master Tuo's lofty footsteps. His movements accorded with the formless, yet without abandoning the benefiting of sentient beings, he rebuilt the monastery. At that time, a gentlewoman of Taiyuan Prefecture had a statue of Mañjuśrī made and was about to send it into the mountains. When she arrived at the bank of the Huchi River, the floodwaters were surging and swelling. Yefang then burned incense across the river and made an earnest supplication; the river's flow decreased, and after the statue of Mañjuśrī had crossed, the water surged full again. When he later died, a stūpa was erected one li northwest of the monastery. His whole-body relic still remains, and many miracles occurred.
