系曰：僧中職任也，如網之綱，如屋之梁焉！肇自姚秦立正，魏世推都，北齊則十統分員，唐世則僧錄命職。異乎常所聞者，五臺山自貞元中智頵始封僧長矣！亦猶魚鹽蜃蛤，祈望守之也。

The appraisal states: Monastic offices are like the main cord of a net, or the ridgepole of a building! Beginning with the Yao Qin establishing the Rectifier (Zheng), the Wei era electing the Chief (Du), the Northern Qi dividing responsibilities among the Ten Directors (Shitong), and the Tang era commissioning the Saṅgha Rectifiers (Senglu). What differs from what is commonly heard is that at Mount Wutai, beginning in the Zhenyuan era, Zhiyun was first titled Senior Monastic (Sengzhang)! It is just as fish, salt, and clams need someone to guard and look after them.
