Śramaṇa Sengda, surnamed Wang, was a man of Kuaiji. In his youth he was outstanding and extraordinary, not engaging in childish games. He abandoned the secular world at the Miaoxi Bodhimaṇḍa on Mount Gui—this temple was first built in the Southern Liang. Later, he enjoyed wandering abroad. When he met Dhyāna Master Ren of Huangmei, it was like parched sprouts receiving rain; following his guidance he cultivated dhyāna, never slacking. Meeting Dhyāna Master Yinzong, he polished his mind-mirror once again. In Guangzhou he saw Vinaya Master Dao'an and further encouraged himself in vinaya deportment. The fourfold assembly took refuge in him like streams returning to the sea. In the seventh year of the Kaiyuan reign era, he manifested illness and passed away, at the age of eighty-two.
