Shi Shenjiong; it is not known where he came from. In his youth he entered the stream of the Dharma, bearing himself with solemnity and gravity; his integrity was lofty and his conduct steep, imposing without harshness. In his later years he admired Vinaya Master Dayi of Chengxin Temple, studied the Three Contemplations of the Tiantai school together with him, and received the essential doctrine from Chan Master Zuoxi; this was during the Baoying era. Furthermore, his prose was expansive and rich, with an abundance of rhetorical adornment. He composed the *Eulogy for Master Lang's Portrait* and the *Preface to the Words and Phrases of the Lotus Sūtra*, which surpassed those of his time and were prized by the world. It is not known how he ended his life.
