Śramaṇa Muniśrī was called Jimo in Chinese. In character, his spiritual bearing was lofty and clear, and his disposition candid and frank. In the ninth year of the Zhenyuan era of Emperor Dezong, he set out from Nālandā Temple, holding his monk's staff and journeying eastward. He said of himself that he had gone from Northern India to this temple to leave home, receive ordination, and study the Dharma. In the sixteenth year, he arrived at Xingshan Temple in Chang'an. In the nineteenth year, he moved to Chongfu and Liquan Temples. He then requested to carry out translation work at Ci'en Temple, whereupon, using Master Xuanzang's Sanskrit manuscript, he produced the Shouhu guojiezhu tuoluoni jing (Dhāraṇī Sūtra on Protecting the Sovereign of the State Realm) in ten scrolls, and also presented the "Chart of the Six Dusts and Beasts". The emperor was pleased and gave him abundant offerings. On the nineteenth day of the sixth month of the first year of Yuanhe, he passed away at Ci'en Temple. Earlier, Jimo recounted that Nālandā Temple in Magadha, Central India, was forty-eight li in circumference, with nine temples and a single gate, built by nine heavenly kings. In the days when Jimo was at the temple, there were over ten thousand residents; with great Dharma masters handling management and administrative duties, no monastery in the Western Regions was so lofty and vast. Note that the Shouhu guojiezhu jing was translated by Prajñā, while Muni[śrī] certified the Sanskrit text. Zhizhen of Guangzhai Temple, an Attendant at the Hanlin Academy, translated the language; Yuanchao took it down with the brush; Jianxu polished the phrasing; and Chengguan certified the meaning.
