9.14

系曰：彌天以出家子咸姓釋氏，懸合後到《阿含經》，可不務乎？素師以俗姓呼之，必有由矣。噫，繁盛法嗣，猶不能遏此訛稱，則知素師名翼一飛，四海仰止，故登俗域。今警將來，宜正名也。

The appraisal states: Mitian considered that all who leave householder life should take the surname Shi, which mysteriously coincided with the later-arriving *Āgama-sūtra*; can one not attend to this? That Master Su was addressed by his secular surname must have had a reason. Alas, when flourishing Dharma heirs still cannot stop this erroneous designation, one knows that once the wings of Master Su's name took flight, the four seas looked up to him, and so it ascended into the secular realm. Now to warn future generations, names should be rectified.
