His route passed through Tibet, traveling in the company of a merchant caravan. The barbarians grew greedy for goods and led a force to encircle them. Śubhakarasiṃha secretly activated the mind seal, whereupon the Tibetan chieftains begged for forgiveness. Reaching the western borders of the Great Tang, a divine being appeared at night and said: "To the east of here is not your disciple's realm; Mañjuśrī indeed protects the Divine Continent." He bowed to his feet and vanished, just as the deity Kapila once escorted the monk with joined eyebrows. Śubhakarasiṃha loaded the scriptures onto camels, and upon reaching Xizhou, he forded a river. A dragon dragged down the camel's feet, causing it to sink beneath the spring, and Śubhakarasiṃha also entered the spring. He stayed in the dragon palace for three days, propagating the Dharma transformations and awakening very many beings. When he led the camel out onto the riverbank, the scriptures had not been dampened at all.
