In the regions of the Five Indias, following the Buddha's parinirvāṇa, ninety-six heterodox lineages towered in prominence, each clinging exclusively to its own views. Śubhakarasiṃha dismantled obstructions and resolved doubts in accordance with their varied attachments, releasing wrongful bonds at the gates of their minds and turning them from deluded fords toward the path of awakening. The cloud of the Dharma rained evenly regardless of large or small; the water of samādhi conformed to square or round according to the vessels. He toppled the banners and drums of divergent teachings and erected the victorious standard of the Mind King, causing them to restrain madness with mindfulness and contemplate the Buddha within their very bodies. Dharmagupta said: "Good man, you have a karmic affinity with the land of Cīna. You may go now." Śubhakarasiṃha then bowed his head in farewell and departed.
