Śramaṇa Daoist Guo: it is not known where he was from. His capacity was pure and refined, and his conduct was honest and transcendent; dwelling alone and solitary, he soared high above material forms. Having studied widely under masters, he wished to halt his solitary travels, and loving the extraordinary beauty of Mount Lu, he vowed to live in obscurity to pursue his aspirations. He built a thatched hut, watered his garden, and planted vegetables, allowing the mountain dwellers to pick them as they pleased. When someone asked him the reason, he replied: "This poor monk plants with no mind, and gives away with no mind." Examining this perception, he was truly an eminent person who had reached the Way. Saṅgha Rectifier Xiumu constantly revered and respected him, presenting Master Guo with a poem: "Entering the gate, all is empty and still; / Truly an authentic child of the Dharma. / Having conduct unseen by ghosts, / Possessing no mind, men call him a fool." Later he passed away in the cloister and was buried on the mountain plateau of Shuangxi, where a small stūpa stands. Today people call him by the character "Guo"; whether it was his name or his surname remains unclear.
