Śramaṇa Puzhi, courtesy name Wuyi and art name Yizhisou, was a son of the Chu family of Linping in Zhejiang. He left home at Longjing Temple in Qiantang, and relied on Dharma Master Dongming Ri to receive the Tiantai teachings on intrinsic inclusion. He was skilled in lecturing and preaching. He went through four major bodhimandas, greatly invigorating their traditions. In his late years, he taught at Yanqing Temple in Songjiang, where he finally spent his remaining days, exclusively cultivating pure karma without ceasing through winter and summer. On the second day of the first month of the wu-zi year of Yongle, he showed slight illness; he assembled the crowd, sat upright facing west, recited the Buddha's name, and passed away. He once compiled and annotated the Amitābha Sūtra in one fascicle.
