Śramaṇa the Anonymous Tianzhu Monk: it is not known from which region of India he came. His appearance was hideous and ugly; he wore a mantle-style unhemmed robe of gandha color, wore leather sandals, and trailed an iron staff, wandering and converting people in the capital. When Wei Gao was born, barely three days old, his family invited monks to a vegetarian feast. This monk came uninvited. The servants of the Wei household were all angered by him and made him sit on a tattered mat in the courtyard. When the meal was done, the Wei family ordered the wet nurse to bring out the infant and asked the assembled monks to pray together for his longevity. The barbarian monk suddenly stepped up the stairs on his own, and said to the infant, "Have you been well since we parted so long ago?" The infant seemed to show a look of joy, and all the onlookers marveled at it. The master of the Wei house asked, "This child was born only three days ago; why, Master, do you speak of parting long ago?" The barbarian monk said, "This is not something you, dānapati, can know." The Wei master insistently asked him. The barbarian monk said, "This child is none other than the later rebirth of Marquis Zhuge Wu. Marquis Wu served as Prime Minister of Shu during the late Eastern Han; the people of Shu received his favors for a long time. Now that he has descended into the world, he will become the military commander of Shu and receive the blessings of the people of Shu. In years past, when I was at Jianmen, I was on good terms with this child. Now hearing that he has been born into the Wei clan, I came from afar for this reason." The Wei family marveled at his words and consequently gave the child the courtesy name Wuhou. Later, Wei Gao rose from Junior Officer of the Golden Bird to take command of the Jiannan Army, was repeatedly promoted to Grand Defender and Concurrent Director of the Chancellery, and remained in the gates of Shu for eighteen years, precisely fulfilling the barbarian monk's words.
