Dharma Master Dhūta Song lived among the rocky valleys forty li north of Shuanglin in Wuzhou. He founded Xiangshan Monastery there. When erecting the miraculous stūpa pole, tens of thousands of monastics and laypeople together pulled hemp ropes to hoist it. The ropes suddenly snapped in the middle, and all who were pulling fell stumbling. The Master then said, "What demonic hindrance has caused this?" He then took a bowl filled with pure water, stirred it inside and out, chanted an incantation, and paid reverence. Holding the bowl, he circumambulated the pole once; the pole then stood upright of itself without relying on human labor. Later, he went to Mount Lai and established a monastery. The Master often said, "Mount Lai shall flourish, but not for long; Mount Xiang shall endure for long, though it will not flourish." It later turned out just as he had spoken. In the end, his whereabouts remained unknown.
