Śramaṇa Xingzun was the second son of Wang [Shenzhi], the King of Min in Fuzhou. During the Kaiyun era, his appearance was like someone over seventy, yet his vigor had not waned. If anyone asked his age or monastic seniority, he would maintain absolute silence. He lodged at Guangguo Chan Cloister in Langzhong. The community of the cloister maintained the monastery through the vinaya rules, and people did not know whether Zun was capable or not. A son of the Li family invited him to a meal; while eating and drinking, he suddenly sprang up and went out the door, shouting as if rebuking someone. He said to Li, "Tonight there will be a fire from the southeast to the northwest street. Have the neighbors all prepare for it." That evening it was indeed reduced to ashes without remainder. The crowd asked him the reason, and he said, "Yesterday a woman dressed in red passed by holding a torch; this old monk only regrets not catching up to her." Again, at the house of Legal Officer Zhao, he pointed beneath a peach tree and said, "There is such-and-such amount of money," without stating the exact number. Zhao then summoned men to dig for it. Just as the baskets and spades were set to work, a guest happened to arrive. The money was seized by the domestic servants; in the midst of the commotion, it all turned into blue mud. Whenever he passed by graves, he would know the good or bad fortune of the family. As for winds and the cries of birds and beasts, when he saw or heard them, the calamities he foretold inevitably came true. Therefore, people far and near in the commanderies and villages used his predictions as a constant topic of conversation. He ended his days at Mount Yu in Jin'an, where the monastic assembly cremated him.
