弘贊法花傳者。始自東晉。終乎李唐。凡學法花。得其靈應者。備載於此。斯可謂裨贊一大事之因緣。使其不墜于地者歟。然。今海東。唯得草本。年祀逾遠。筆誤頗多。鑽仰之徒。病其訛升。余雖不敏。讎挍是非。欲廣流通。因以雕板。庶幾披閱之士。開示悟入佛之知見者也。時天慶五年歲在乙未李春月十七日。於內席釋院明慶殿記。

The Accounts in Praise of the Lotus Sūtra begins in the Eastern Jin and ends in the Li Tang. All those who studied the Lotus and obtained miraculous responses are fully recorded here. This may indeed be called an aid and support to the causal condition of the one great matter, ensuring it does not fall to the ground. However, now in the Eastern Sea [lands], only a draft manuscript was obtained; as the years have grown distant, scribal errors are quite numerous. Those who delve into and look up to it are distressed by its corruptions and inaccuracies. Although I am not clever, I collated the correct and incorrect readings, wishing to circulate it widely, and thus had it carved onto printing blocks, in the hope that gentlemen who peruse it may open, reveal, awaken to, and enter the Buddha's vision and knowledge. Recorded on the seventeenth day of the first spring month in the year yiwei, the fifth year of Tianqing, at the Mingqing Hall of the Inner Buddhist Quarters.
