The above [was translated in] the reign of Emperor Xiaowu of the Song by the Marquis of Anyang, Jingsheng, cousin of Juqu Mengxun, King of Hexi of the Northern Liang. Meeting the end of the Liang's fortunes, it was destroyed by the Yuan Wei. Jingsheng fled into concealment and rushed south to Jiankang, concealing his aspirations for the rest of his life and avoiding human affairs. He constantly wandered and stayed at stūpas and monasteries, conducting his entire life as a lay practitioner. Severing ties with wife and children, he was indifferent to worldly glory and gain, freely associating with companions of the Dharma and propagating the correct teaching. For this reason, both monastics and laity held him in high esteem. He translated the aforementioned sūtra.
