Śramaṇa Shenghuan, whose family name is unknown, went forth from the household and lived in Zhicheng Temple in Jinling. Originally emaciated and sickly, lacking bodily strength, he sincerely repented beneath the temple's stūpa with the utmost earnestness and supplication, reciting the Lotus Sūtra without cessation. In a short time, his physical strength grew formidable. In front of the temple stūpa were two stone lions of immense weight. Huan suddenly placed both arms beneath the bellies of the lions, lifted them, and ran, traveling about ten li without feeling any fatigue at all. Emperor Gaozu of the Liang heard of this and was astonished; he thereupon ordered him laicized and attached him to Pei Sui's northern expedition, where he perished.
