Śramaṇa Huijin, whose secular surname was Qian, was of unknown origin. Having gone forth from home in his boyhood, he cultivated meditative discipline with diligence. Mount Kuang and Mount Lu were places he often roamed, yet he constantly recited the Lotus Sūtra without stopping. From dusk to dawn, except for sleeping and eating, he never rested. When reciting, he would clean and sweep several paces around, pick seasonal flowers to decorate the area, hang banners, burn incense, and set up a separate seat five or six feet in the center. Then, putting on newly cleaned robes, he bowed to the Buddhas of the ten directions, sat upright with palms joined, and only then recited. When he completed ten thousand rounds, he dimly saw, as if through clouds and mist, the thrice-transformed jeweled thrones and jeweled trees of the eight directions, and Buddhas and bodhisattvas hazily before his eyes. Upon reaching fifteen thousand rounds, he saw them clearly and completely. Later, his end was unknown.
