Wang Gu was a native of Jiande Commandery. Serving as governor of the Kingdom of Huanglong, the implements and goods in the storehouse were depleted and scattered, and punishment was imminent. He felt aggrieved that the loss was not due to his own hoarding, yet there was no escaping the punishment. He then with single-minded sincerity chanted and recited the Avalokiteśvara Sūtra a thousand times, whereupon the chains and shackles upon his body all broke apart. People regarded this as extraordinary.
