"In this way, sixty-four Buddhas appeared in succession, speaking the verse likewise. At that time, the fires of the hells were extinguished and transformed into cool pools. Sentient beings and I cast off our bodies and were born into the fourth heaven. By the nature of the heavens, upon first [arriving], three things are immediately known: the sixty-four characters of the title you wrote each manifested the body of an emanation Buddha, speaking verses to rescue us from suffering. You and I share the same flesh and blood; relying on the wholesome condition of my single [son], the sinful persons of the hells heard the verses, were freed from suffering, and were born together in one place. Those now surrounding me are they. You must abandon the former evil and copy Buddhist scriptures as your family's profession." After [explaining] these causes and conditions, he vanished and was seen no more. Long awoke from the dream, shed tears, repented his faults, and fully reported it to the marshal. Those who heard it rejoiced, all remarking that if merely writing the title unintentionally was still like this, how much more so if one copies it oneself or teaches others to copy it—the merit obtained by such a person would be limitless! The Long family's profession of calligraphy has been handed down to this day. Within the prefecture, those who make obeisance and offerings at each character and copy it daily, or those who chant praises at each line and transcribe it daily, are exceedingly numerous. (And so on; New Record.)
