The śrāmaṇera Yunzang left home in his youth and transmitted the Āgamas. As a poor practitioner lacking clothing, during the cold weather of winter, his body suffered from freezing cold. He entered an old vihāra and obtained five or six scrolls of the Lotus Sūtra, which he stitched together to make paper clothing. Those who saw it felt a chill in their hearts. Before the winter passed, he suddenly broke out in manifest leprosy: his eyebrows all fell out, and minute sores spread all over, at first like millet grains, then like beans. Within seven days, his body split open and he died. Those who saw it sighed, saying: 'How lamentable! Yunzang slighted the Great Vehicle, and lost the benefits of two lifetimes!'
