隋朝登法師於并州興國寺講涅槃經。道俗來聽。若長若幼。口授阿彌陀佛名。勸共往生。至開皇十二年。異香迎接。殯送之日。香雲遍一切聚落。

Dharma Master Deng of the Sui dynasty lectured on the Mahāparinirvāṇa Sūtra at Xingguo Temple in Bingzhou. Monastics and laity came to listen, both old and young, and he orally transmitted to them the name of Amitābha Buddha, exhorting them to be reborn together [there]. In the twelfth year of the Kaihuang reign era, a miraculous fragrance came to welcome him; on the day of his funeral, fragrant clouds covered all the villages.
