1.83

代州房翥曾勸一老人念佛。其老人得生西方。入冥見閻魔王。王乃再放還世。汝當生淨土。翥有一萬遍金剛經願。兼敬禮五臺。此心未遂。未欲往生。

Fang Zhu of Daizhou once exhorted an old man to be mindful of the Buddha; that old man attained rebirth in the Western Land. When [Fang Zhu] entered the underworld and saw King Yama, the King sent him back to the world again: 'You ought to be reborn in the Pure Land.' Zhu had made a vow to recite the Diamond Sūtra ten thousand times, and also wished to pay homage to Mount Wutai; since this desire was not yet fulfilled, he did not yet wish to attain rebirth.
