1.87

翁婆等識達苦空。每月二十九日。請山僧二人行道念佛。設齋婆自營飯。翁曰。何不使人。婆曰。能得幾時自作。若教他作。但是他福。臨終時光明滿宅。半夜謂如白日。

The old man and woman thoroughly understood suffering and emptiness. On the twenty-ninth day of every month, they invited two mountain monks to practice the Way and buddhamanasikāra, and they offered a vegetarian feast, with the old woman preparing the food herself. The old man said, 'Why not have a servant do it?' The old woman replied, 'How much longer will I be able to do it myself? If I make someone else do it, it is only their merit.' At the time of her death, light filled the house; at midnight, it was just like broad daylight.
