Huixuan of the Tang dynasty undertook pravrajyā in Xiangchuan. He once propagated the great sūtras of the Three Wheels. On the eighth day of the fourth month in the twenty-third year of the Zhenguan era, he saw a mountain deity at night who told him, “The Dharma Master’s dwelling will before long be reborn in the Western Direction.” On the fourteenth day of the seventh month, having finished lecturing on the Ullambana Sūtra, he folded his hands and said, “In life I have received offerings from the faithful; now they must be completely distributed. Every single item down to a single hair or more shall be given to the poor, solitary beggars, and all heterodox paths throughout the ten directions.” Having spoken, he passed away upon the Dharma seat.
