唐明瞻。晚歲剋志安養。或譏其遲暮。瞻曰。十念功成。猶得見佛吾何慮乎。後因疾。於興教寺具齋。別道俗。時僕射房玄齡杜如晦皆與焉。日過午。整威儀念佛。遽曰。佛來矣。二大士亦至。竦身合掌而化。

Mingzhan of the Tang set his resolve upon Peaceful Nourishment in his later years. Someone mocked him for being late in years, but Zhan said: 'When the merit of ten recitations is accomplished, one can still see the Buddha; what should I worry about?' Later, due to illness, he prepared a vegetarian meal at Xingjiao Monastery to bid farewell to monastics and laity. At that time, Vice Directors Fang Xuanling and Du Ruhui were both present. After the midday sun passed, he straightened his dignified deportment, engaged in buddhamanasikāra, and suddenly said: 'The Buddha has come! The two Great Beings have also arrived.' He straightened his body, joined his palms, and passed away.
