Zunshi of the Song dynasty was a native of Linhai County in Taizhou. His learning and conduct were lofty and archaic, and his fame led both Zhe regions. He devoted his aspiration exclusively to Peaceful Nourishment. He once practiced the pratyutpanna-samādhi; through ninety days of arduous study, he vomited blood, and upon entering the sanctuary, the skin on both his feet cracked, yet he vowed to persevere unto death. Suddenly, as if in a dream, he saw Avalokiteśvara lower a finger and point to his mouth, drawing forth several worms; and from the fingertip, nectar flowed, pouring into his mouth. He felt body and mind become cool and refreshed, and his illness was immediately cured. He authored the 'Resolution of Doubts and Aspirational Practices for the Pure Land' and the 'Pure Land Repentance Ritual,' which circulated in the world. During the Tiansheng era, on the day he was about to pass away, he lit incense and bowed to the Buddha, wishing that all Buddhas would bear witness to his rebirth in Peaceful Nourishment. By evening, he passed away seated. People saw a great star fall upon Vulture Peak. At that time, he was called Ciyun, the Repentance Master.
