Shouzhen of the Song was a native of Yongxing. He lectured on the Awakening of Faith and the Dharmadhātu Contemplation. Regularly at midnight, he formed the secret seal of rebirth of the Buddha Amitāyus and fastened his mindfulness on the Western Direction. One night at dawn, he felt his own body ascend to the Pure Land. Raising his eyes, he saw the Buddha, whereupon he prostrated before the image. He suddenly said: "The forty-eight vows are what can deliver me!" He then held incense and flowers, entered the hall to make offerings, took his seat, and transformed.
