晉曇恒。河東人。童孺依遠公出家。內外典籍。無不通貫。自入廬山。專志念佛。義熙十四年。端坐合掌。厲聲念佛而化。

Tanheng of the Jin was a native of Hedong. As a young child, he relied upon Master Yuan to leave the household. Of inner and outer texts, there were none he did not master thoroughly. From the time he entered Mount Lu, he concentrated his aspiration on buddhamanasikāra. In the fourteenth year of the Yixi era, sitting upright with joined palms, he chanted the Buddha's name in a loud voice and transformed.
