贊曰。冲年高才。鮮不自恃。而篤志念佛。非宿植淨因者乎。今沙彌略涉經論。我慢放逸。白首而無歸。不得已而談西方晚矣。

The appreciation says: Those of tender years and high talent seldom do not rely upon themselves with pride; yet that he was resolute in his aspiration for buddhamanasikāra—was he not one who had planted pure causes in past lives? Nowadays, novice monks superficially touch upon the sūtras and treatises, becoming arrogant and remiss, growing white-haired without any refuge; only when they have no other choice do they speak of the Western Direction, which is already too late.
