Chen Junzhang of the Yuan dynasty was a native of Huangyan. He was grave and reticent. At the age of forty, together with his wife Lady Ye, he opened and recited the Lotus Sūtra and practiced buddhamanasikāra with the utmost prudence. At sixty, his illness grew grave. One evening he instructed his son Jingxing to help him sit up, telling him, 'I am returning.' [The son] asked, 'Where are you returning to?' He answered, 'To no place at all.' He also said, 'When I die, you should follow the cremation rite of the śramaṇas.' Having spoken, he joined his palms, invoked 'Namo Amitābha Buddha,' and passed away.
