In the Song dynasty, Old Woman Hu Zhang, née Li, was a person of Shangyu. After her husband died, she chanted the Buddha's name aloud day and night and recited the Amitābha Sūtra for over ten years. One day, she saw a monk covering her with a crimson canopy, who said, "You will attain rebirth on the fifteenth day at the hour of the rat." She asked, "Master, who are you?" He replied, "I am the one you recite." The old woman then gathered all her relatives to bid them farewell. When the appointed time arrived, with wondrous fragrance and bright light, she sat upright and passed away. After seven days she was cremated: her teeth were like white jade, her tongue like a red lotus, and her pupils like grapes—all subtle, solid, and indestructible—with relics beyond count. The next day, where the cremation took place, a single flower grew resembling a white poppy.
