唐張鍾馗。殺鷄為業。病革見緋衣人。驅群雞啄之。血流被面。痛不可忍。有僧為設佛像教令念佛。頃之香氣滿室。恬然而逝。

Zhang Zhongkui of the Tang dynasty made his living by slaughtering chickens. When critically ill, he saw people in crimson clothes driving a flock of chickens to peck at him, with blood flowing over his face and unbearable pain. A monk set up a buddha image for him and taught him to practice buddhamanasikāra. Shortly thereafter, fragrant air filled the room, and he peacefully passed away.
