Yingke of the Song dynasty studied at Yaoshan in Zhichuan. He made no discrimination regarding wine and meat. Suddenly, he reflected that his pure conduct had lapsed and feared he would drift into transmigrations. He had his fellow dweller fetch the Collection on Rebirth compiled by Chan Master Jiezhu to read. For every biography he read, he nodded in agreement. Soon after, facing west in his room, he arranged a meditation chair, ceased eating, and practiced buddhamanasikāra. After three days, he dreamed that the Buddha told him, "You still have ten years of life remaining; for now, strive diligently." Ke addressed the Buddha, saying, "Even if I had a hundred years, the Jambudvīpa world is defiled and evil, and it is easy to lose right livelihood. My wish is to be reborn early in Peaceful Nourishment to serve the multitude of holy ones." The Buddha said, "Since your resolve is thus, I will come to welcome you in three days." When the time arrived, he instructed the assembly to recite the Amitābha Sūtra, and then said, "The Buddha and the great assembly have all arrived," and quietly transformed.
