唐貞元中。河東裴氏。畜鸚鵡。常念佛。過午不食。臨終十念氣絕。火化之得舍利十餘粒。烱然耀目。僧慧觀者。用陶甓建塔。以旌其異。成都尹韋臯為之記。有了空相於無念。留真骨於已斃之句云。

During the Zhenyuan era of the Tang dynasty, the Pei family of Hedong kept a parrot that regularly practiced buddhamanasikāra and did not eat after noon. Approaching its end, it took ten recitations and its breath ceased. When it was cremated, over ten śarīra relics were obtained, shining brilliantly. The monk Huiguan used fired bricks to build a stūpa to commemorate its wonder. Wei Gao, the governor of Chengdu, composed a record for it, which contained the lines: 'It realized the characteristic of emptiness within non-thought; / It left behind true relics after death.'
