贊曰。鸚鵡鴝鵒。人教以念佛。蓋常事耳。今胡不見往生。噫譬諸世人。均聞念佛之教。有信心念者。有輕心念者。是以念佛人多往生人少。彼鸚鵡鴝鵒。何獨不然乎。

An appraisal states: Parrots and mynas being taught by people to practice buddhamanasikāra is an ordinary matter. Why then do we not see them attaining rebirth today? Alas, it is like the people of the world: all hear the teaching of buddhamanasikāra, but there are those who chant with faith and those who chant with a flippant mind. Therefore, those who practice buddhamanasikāra are many, but those who attain rebirth are few. Why should those parrots and mynas be any different?
