大明明本。通州靜嘉寺僧。素有高志。梵行清白。勤於講業。後輟講專心淨土。六時禮念。年久弗替。忽微恙。自知時至。告眾安然而化。異香七日。
Under the Great Ming, Mingben was a monk of Jingjia Temple in Tongzhou. He had lofty aspirations by nature, his pure conduct was immaculate, and he was diligent in lecturing on the texts. Later, he halted his lectures to concentrate his mind on the Pure Land, making prostrations and recitations in the six periods of the day, which he did not abandon over many years. Suddenly he had a slight illness, and knowing that his time had arrived, he told the assembly and serenely transformed. An extraordinary fragrance remained for seven days.
