大明郭大林。湯陰人。平生端潔雅素。出世為懷。遇僧教以念佛。遂一心淨土。年七十六。一日無疾。與子別云。明午當去。至日坐脫。
Under the Great Ming, Guo Dalin was a native of Tangyin. Throughout his life he was upright, pure, elegant, and unadorned, taking world-transcendence as his aspiration. Meeting a monk who taught him to practice buddhamanasikāra, he thereupon single-mindedly pursued the Pure Land. At the age of seventy-six, one day without illness, he bid farewell to his sons, saying: 'Tomorrow at noon I shall depart.' When the day came, he passed away while sitting.
