贊曰。居士將入滅。諸子請曰。大人臨終一段因緣。當聞之雲棲。入往生傳否。居士謂。必以報吾師。然勿為裝飾。據事直陳。至於入傳不入傳。師自有見。切勿以不入傳而有慍色而有慍意。嗟乎。即是可以觀所養矣。平生於淨土諦信不貳。含咲而逝。往生何疑焉。

An appraisal states: When the layman was about to enter cessation, his sons requested: 'Should this matter of your final moments, Father, be reported to Yunqi to be included in the biographies of rebirth?' The layman said: 'You must indeed report it to my master. However, do not embellish it; state the facts directly according to the matter. As to whether it enters the biographies or not, Master has his own view. You must never display an angry countenance or harbor resentful thoughts because it does not enter the biographies.' Ah! One can observe his cultivation from this. Throughout his life he had sincere and unwavering faith in the Pure Land, and he departed with a smile; how could his rebirth be doubted?
