唐鄭牧卿。滎陽人。舉家念佛。開元中病篤。有勸進魚肉者。確乎不許。手執香爐。願求往生。忽異香充蔚。奄然而逝。舅尚書蘇頲。夢寶池蓮開。牧卿坐其上。

Zheng Muqing of the Tang dynasty was a native of Xingyang. His entire family practiced buddhamanasikāra. During the Kaiyuan era, he fell critically ill. Someone urged him to take fish and meat, but he resolutely refused. Holding an incense burner in his hands, he prayed to seek rebirth. Suddenly an extraordinary fragrance filled the air abundantly, and he passed away quietly. His maternal uncle, Minister Su Ting, dreamed that a lotus bloomed in a jeweled pond, and Muqing was sitting upon it.
